Ellis then brought Next Step Living into partnership with Sunrun and became the head of the Solar Division. Under David’s leadership, Next Step Living become the largest residential solar company on the east coast with more than 100 monthly installations.
Always the entrepreneur, in 2012, Ellis co-founded Boston-based MassAmerican Energy, serving as the company’s Managing Director. MassAmerican focused on C&I solar markets. During this time, MassAmerican developed and installed more than 100 projects.
In 2020, MassAmerican Energy expanded into retail power supply, and attribute monetization with the acquisition of Hampshire Power Corporation, also based in Massachusetts. The companies now do business under the Gridwealth brand and offer expanded services that include energy consulting, power procurement, C&I scale solar, traditional solar farm and battery storage development.
